Message Minute (The Secret Place)

"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty." - Psalm 91:1

In the chaos of modern life, God offers something revolutionary - Himself as a secret place of refuge. This isn't just poetic language or a distant metaphor. The Hebrew word for "secret place" means a hidden shelter or covering, like a bomb shelter or safe room.

But where is this shelter? The secret place is God's heart - the very center of who He is. As Jesus prayed, "I in them and you in me" (John 17:23). For followers of Jesus, this means God's heart now dwells in their heart. The secret place is accessible right now, not something to wait for in heaven.

This refuge is available regardless of external circumstances. When anxiety hits, instead of reaching for a phone, someone can turn their heart toward Jesus. When loneliness strikes, instead of scrolling social media, they can turn toward the One who promised never to leave. When overwhelm threatens, instead of seeking digital distraction, they can enter the secret place where perfect peace waits.

This requires practice. Years of digital discipleship have trained reflexes to seek comfort in screens. Learning to find refuge in God instead of gadgets takes intentional, repeated practice. It means starting each day by turning toward Jesus before turning toward devices. It means taking moments throughout the day to consciously redirect attention from digital noise to His still, small voice.

The safest place in the universe is available anytime. All it takes is turning the heart toward Jesus and saying, "I need refuge."

Reflection Question: When you feel anxious or overwhelmed, what is your first instinct - to reach for your phone or reach for God?

Prayer: "Lord, teach me to find my refuge in You rather than in digital distractions. Help me practice turning my heart toward You throughout each day. Make me aware of Your presence as my secret place. Amen."
