Message Minute (Stillness Is a Command)

"Be still, and know that I am God." - Psalm 46:10

"Be still" sounds gentle, but in Hebrew it's intense: surrender, cease striving, stop fighting. This isn't a suggestion—it's a command. God is saying, "Stop trying to control everything. Stop striving to fix everything. Let go and surrender to Me."

Stillness doesn't happen accidentally. No one stumbles into a deep prayer life. It requires intentionality. Think about Mary and Martha. Martha served Jesus but missed Him because she was too busy doing things for Him instead of being with Him.

Here's the truth: busyness doesn't equal faithfulness. Some of us have convinced ourselves otherwise, but we've only succeeded in drowning out God's voice with activity. We're exhausted from running on our own strength instead of resting in His presence.

Intentional stillness is where intimacy with God happens. The word "Selah" appears 71 times in Psalms, meaning "pause and reflect." God interrupts worship 71 times to say: "Stop. Be quiet. Let this sink in."

Reflection: Practice breathing again, possibly extending it an additional minute or two. Write down any thoughts, impression or pictures you hear or see while breathing and listening.

Find a quiet place. Set a timer if it helps you keep your eyes off the clock or your phone. Get comfortable and relax your body and your breathing.

Begin the prayer rhythm - Breathe in (4 to 6 seconds): “Lord, I am listening.” Hold briefly (1 to 2 seconds). Breathe out (6 to 8 seconds): Just breathe… Hold briefly (1 to 2 seconds). Repeat.

End with gratitude – what can you thank God for today?

Prayer: God, we surrender our need to control, fix, and manage everything. Teach us that stillness isn't weakness—it's where we find our strength in You. Give us courage to stop striving and simply be. Amen.
