Message Minute (Putting God at the Center)

The story of Esau teaches us a profound lesson about priorities. In a moment of physical hunger, Esau traded his birthright—his spiritual inheritance and future blessing—for a bowl of stew. His first mistake was putting himself at the center rather than God. When we place ourselves at the center of our universe, we become self-defined and entitled. Life becomes merely a canvas for the expression and accumulation of pleasure and rights. But we had no choice in being here—we are recipients of the gift of life itself! Godliness means building a life where we reference God in everything we do—our vision of work, relationships, entertainment, money, and sexuality. This doesn't mean God is trying to keep us from enjoying life. As Paul tells Timothy, "God gives us all things richly for our enjoyment." But it's godly enjoyment rather than sinful pleasure that trades a moment of satisfaction for eternal inheritance. Today, consider what currently occupies the central place in your life. Is it your ambitions, your comfort, your reputation—or is it God?

Verse: "For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile, and their foolish hearts were darkened." Romans 1:21

Reflection Question: What area of your life have you been keeping God in the margins rather than at the center?

Prayer: Lord, forgive me for the times I've placed myself at the center of my universe. Help me to reference You in everything I do, acknowledging You as the giver of life itself. Teach me to find joy in godly pleasures rather than temporary satisfactions. Today, I choose to enthrone You as the central reference point of my life. Amen.
