Message Minute (Out-Give Each Other)

"Love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor." Romans 12:10

After all this talk of tearing up the scorecard, here is the one competition God blesses: a race to out-give. Picture two people racing each other to the towel and basin, each trying to out-forgive, out-serve, and out-honor the other.

That is not a fifty-fifty relationship where each person meets halfway. It is one hundred and one hundred. Two cups overflowing, each pouring into the other faster than either can run dry. That kind of love is a small reflection of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who have been pouring into one another since before time began.

A simple way to start is a seven-day challenge. Once a day for the next week, do one hidden act of kindness for a spouse, family member, or friend. Tell no one. No hints, no credit, no social media post. When nobody else can see it, there is only One left to do it for. And nobody can keep score in a game nobody knows is being played. Then watch what God does, not only in the one receiving, but deep in the heart of the giver.

Maybe it feels too late. Maybe a relationship has grown cold, functional, and tired. But God specializes in dead things. He turned a cross into a throne and a dark Friday into Resurrection Sunday. Even a relationship everyone else has written off can come back to life. No relationship placed in the hands of a risen Savior is beyond hope.

We love because He first loved us. We give because He first gave. And we can go first, because Jesus already did.

Reflection: What hidden act of love can I offer someone this week, and what might God change in my own heart as I give unseen?

Prayer: God, thank You for pouring Your love into me without holding anything back. Make me a generous giver who does not need credit. Breathe new life into the relationships I have given up on. I want to out-give because You gave first. Amen.
