Message Minute (Living From Rest)

"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love... I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete." - John 15:9, 11

Most people have it backwards when it comes to rest and work. They think rest is the reward for completing work, that they must earn the right to peace, and that once everything is done, then they can enjoy God's presence. But this isn't how Jesus lived.

Jesus lived from a place of deep rest in His Father's love and served from that place of security and peace. He didn't work to earn God's approval because He already had it. This is the paradigm shift that changes everything: instead of working hard to eventually rest, we learn to work from a place of rest.

When Jesus says "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you," He uses present tense. Not conditional love based on performance, but love right now, just as we are, with the same intensity the Father loves Jesus.

When someone really grasps this truth, everything changes. They stop serving God to try to earn His love and start serving because they're overwhelmed by His love. They stop trying to prove their worth and start living from the security of being unconditionally loved.

This is what Jesus means by complete joy—not happiness that depends on circumstances, but deep, abiding joy rooted in His unchanging love. We were created to live in unbroken fellowship with God, to experience His presence and peace in every moment, to work from rest rather than for rest.

The world tells us we can't afford to slow down, rest, or say no. But Jesus says we can't afford not to. Apart from Him, we can do nothing of eternal value. Connected to Him, we bear much fruit without straining or striving.

Reflection Question: What would it look like practically to live from the security of God's love rather than trying to earn it through your performance?

Prayer: Jesus, thank You that Your love for me isn't based on my performance but on Your character. Help me live from the security of being unconditionally loved by You. Fill me with Your complete joy and teach me to serve from rest, not for rest. Amen.
