Message Minute (A Book That Won't Die)

"Your word is the truth." - John 17:17

Have you ever wondered how we got the Bible? It's actually pretty fascinating. Picture this: 66 different books, written by 40 different authors over 1,600 years, most of whom never met each other. Yet somehow, they all tell one cohesive story. That's either an incredible coincidence or something more.

Here's what's even more amazing - this book has survived everything history could throw at it. A French philosopher named Voltaire once predicted that in 50 years (this was back in 1776), the Bible would be extinct. Guess what happened 50 years after Voltaire died? The French Bible Society bought his house and used it to print and distribute Bibles!

People have been trying to destroy, discredit, or dismiss the Bible for centuries, yet it remains the bestselling book year after year. Why? Because it wasn't just thrown together by some religious committee trying to control people. The books in the Bible were recognized as truth by the people who lived closest to the events - many of whom died rather than deny what they had witnessed.

When Matthew wrote his Gospel, he wasn't writing fiction. He was recording what he had personally seen and heard from Jesus. When early Christians were passing around copies of these writings, they weren't looking for interesting stories - they were desperately seeking truth to stake their lives on.

The Bible has survived every test because it contains something our hearts recognize as true - the voice of the God who made us.

Reflection Question: What does it mean to you that the Bible has survived thousands of years of scrutiny and opposition? How does this impact your trust in its message?

Prayer: God, thank you for preserving your word through the centuries. Help me to see the Bible not just as an old book, but as your living word that speaks into my life today. Give me a hunger to know you better through your word. Amen.
