Message Minute (Finding God in Silence)

"Be still, and know that I am God." - Psalm 46:10

We live in a noise-saturated society where constant stimulation has become normal. We can't drive without music, eat without scrolling phones, or sit in waiting rooms without entertainment. We've lost the ability to simply be still and present, yet this is exactly where God often speaks most clearly.

Jesus, the most important person who ever lived, regularly withdrew from ministry, crowds, and even His closest friends to spend time alone with His Father. If Jesus needed solitude and silence to maintain His connection with God, how much more do we need it?

Here's what many don't realize: God speaks in whispers, not noise. The Holy Spirit moves in stillness, not chaos. Divine encounters happen in quiet places, not in constant stimulation. This is why solitude and silence are essential practices for anyone who wants to experience Jesus, not just know about Him intellectually.

The busier someone feels, the more they need these practices. Starting small is key—just 2-3 minutes of silence each day can make a difference. The goal is to sit quietly, turn off devices, and simply be still. When the mind wanders (and it will), gently bring attention back to God. When restlessness comes (and it will), resist the urge to get up and be productive.

Silence reveals what's really happening in our hearts. When we stop the constant noise and activity, we notice our anxiety, restlessness, and need to always be doing something. But if we stick with it, we also start to notice God's peace, His presence, and His love for us.

Regular practice of solitude and silence transforms how we hear God throughout the day. We become more aware of His presence in ordinary moments and develop spiritual ears that can discern His voice above all the competing noise.

Reflection Question: What does your relationship with noise and silence reveal about your comfort level with simply being present with God?

Prayer: God, I confess that I'm often afraid of silence because of what I might hear or feel. Help me create space to be still with You. Teach me to recognize Your voice above all the noise competing for my attention. Amen.
