Message Minute (Your Waiting Room Ministry)

“Who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” 2 Corinthians 1:4

When suffering hits, one question usually rises before all others: Why? Why this? Why me? Why now?

Paul offers an answer that is easy to miss. God comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. That little phrase, so that, is a purpose clause. It reveals that the comfort we receive was never meant to stop with us. It is a means to an end, not the end itself. Our pain, held in God’s hands, becomes a ministry.

The pastor who first shared this message knows this firsthand. After a life-altering tragedy involving his son, his family has spent years in what he calls a waiting room, waiting on the Great Physician’s final healing. Looking around that room, he sees people everywhere who are lost, hurting, and in tears. His calling is to come alongside them and offer the same comfort God has poured into his own family. Their suffering became their ministry.

You have a waiting room too. Maybe it is a hospital corridor, a support group, a divorce, a prodigal child, or a quiet season of grief. Look around. Others are sitting there with you, and many of them have no idea where to find hope.

You don’t need all the answers to help them. In fact, you won’t have them. What you do have is the comfort God has given you. Sit beside someone. Listen. Pray with them. Remind them they are not alone.

That may be the answer to your why. The comfort you have received is meant to be shared.

Reflection: Who is sitting in a “waiting room” near me right now, and what is one specific way I can offer them the comfort God has given me this week?

Prayer: God of all comfort, thank You for every time You have carried me. Open my eyes to the hurting people around me. I don’t have all the answers, but I have Your comfort. Help me share it freely, and use my pain for Your purpose. Amen.
