Message Minute (Let Him In)

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18

Knowing that God comforts is one thing. Allowing Him to comfort you is another.

When pain arrives, many of us instinctively try to manage it on our own. We stay busy so we don’t have to feel it. We put on a brave face at church. We keep the hurt locked in a back room of the heart, convinced that if we just push through, it will eventually fade. Sometimes we even keep God at arm’s length, unsure whether He can be trusted with our disappointment or anger.

But comfort is hard to receive with clenched fists. God is close to the brokenhearted, yet He waits to be welcomed in. Comfort begins with surrender.

Here is a simple place to start. Find a quiet moment today. Close your eyes and breathe slowly. With each breath, name the hurt and the confusion out loud, and give it to Him. You don’t need polished words. Honest ones are enough. Tell Him what feels unfair. Tell Him what you don’t understand. He can handle all of it.

Something important happens in that surrender. The circumstance may not change right away. The diagnosis may still be real, the loss may still ache, the waiting may still go on. But you will find something in that place you could not produce on your own: strength, courage, grace, mercy, and comfort. Those gifts are what make it possible not just to survive the valley, but to thrive in it.

God isn’t asking you to pretend you are fine. He is asking you to let Him in.

Reflection: What hurt or confusion have I been holding back from God? Take a moment and ask Him to bring them to mind, and then lay them at the foot of the cross.

Prayer: Lord, I have tried to carry this pain on my own. Right now I open my hands and give it to You. I may not understand, and my circumstances may not change today, but I ask for Your strength, grace, and comfort to meet me here. Amen.
