Message Minute (Kindness Found You)

“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.” Titus 3:4-5

Most of life runs on earning. Grades are earned. Paychecks are earned. Trust is earned. So it feels natural to assume God works the same way, that His kindness waits on the other side of better behavior.

Paul says otherwise. Writing to Titus, he reminds believers what they once were: foolish, disobedient, and living in envy. Then comes one of the most hopeful words in Scripture: but. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, everything changed.

Notice who moves first. Kindness appeared. Nobody climbed up to reach it; it came down to reach us. Jesus stepped into a broken world, touched lepers, ate with outsiders, and gave His life for people who had nothing to offer Him. That is what kindness looks like with skin on.

That means kindness found you before you went looking for it. It found you at your worst, not your best. Long before you cleaned up or figured anything out, God had already decided to pursue you.

This truth frees us from two traps. The first is pride, believing we somehow deserved grace. The second is shame, believing we are too far gone for it. Both fall apart at the cross.

Paul also says God saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. Kindness did not just forgive the past. It made something new. So rest in that today. You are not a project God tolerates. You are a person God pursued, and He is still renewing you.

Reflection: Do I lean more toward pride or shame when I think about God’s grace, and how does knowing His kindness found me first change that?

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for coming to find me when I could not find my way to You. I did not earn Your mercy, and my failures cannot cancel it. Renew me by Your Spirit today. Amen.
