Message Minute (Love That Never Quits)

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.” Psalm 136:1

Psalm 136 repeats one line twenty-six times: His love endures forever. The writer walks through creation, the rescue from Egypt, the long road through the wilderness, and victories that seemed impossible. After every memory, the same refrain returns. It almost sounds like a congregation answering back, refusing to let anyone forget the point.

The Hebrew word behind that love is hesed, often translated “lovingkindness.” Hesed is loyal love. It is kindness rooted in commitment, the kind that keeps showing up long after feelings fade or the other person stops deserving it. Hesed does not quit when it gets inconvenient.

That changes how the hard days look. Seasons of loss, confusion, and waiting do not mean God has stepped away. The psalm includes painful chapters of Israel’s story on purpose. Even the wilderness years end with the same line. His love endures forever.

Think about the kindest person you have ever known. Maybe a grandmother, a coach, or a friend who stayed when others left. As good as that person was, their kindness was only a reflection. God is the original. He is the kindest person who ever lived, and His kindness is not a mood. It is who He is.

So start here. Before trying to be kind, before fixing anything, simply receive it. Kindness begins with God, not with us. Look back over your own story and name the moments God carried you. After each one, add the refrain. Gratitude has a way of opening our eyes to a kindness that was there all along.

Reflection: Looking back over my life, where can I see God’s loyal love carrying me, even in a season when I did not feel it?

Prayer: Lord, thank You that Your love endures forever. When I forget, remind me of every time You stayed faithful. Help me live today with a grateful heart that sees Your kindness everywhere. Amen.
