Message Minute (Hand Them Back)

"I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord." 1 Samuel 1:27-28 (NIV)

What good is an arrow that never leaves the hand? Arrows are made for release.

Hannah understood this. For years she longed for a child while her prayers seemed unanswered. One day she prayed so desperately at the temple that the priest thought she was drunk. She promised God that if He gave her a son, she would give him back. Then she got up, ate a meal, and her face was no longer downcast. Nothing had changed yet, but she had opened her hands.

God gave her Samuel. When he was still very young, Hannah brought him to that same temple and kept her word. Then Scripture adds a tender detail. Every year she sewed him a little robe, a bit bigger than the last, and brought it when she visited.

Handing children back to God does not mean loving them less. It means open hands. Keep sewing the robe. Keep praying. Keep showing up. Just stop holding the outcome.

For anyone whose son or daughter has walked away from God or from family, keep saying their name in prayer. If a boundary has been drawn, honor it with humility instead of pressure. Like the father in Jesus's story of the prodigal son, keep watching the road and leave the porch light on.

This week, place a hand on a child's shoulder, whether a son, daughter, grandchild, or neighbor kid, look them in the eye, and speak a blessing out loud. Remind them they belonged to God first, and He will never let them go.

Reflect: Whose name do I need to place in God's hands today, and what outcome am I still holding?

Pray: Father, You know what it costs to open Your hands, because You gave Your Son to bring me home. Today I place my loved ones in Your care and trust You with every outcome. Keep me faithful, hopeful, and watching the road. Amen.
