Message Minute (The Work Happens in the Waiting)

"They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers." (Acts 1:14, NIV)

It's tempting to picture the disciples in that upper room simply killing time, staring at the sky, waiting for something to happen. But the word translated "constantly" describes intense, stubborn devotion, the picture of people who grabbed hold of God and refused to let go until He moved. That upper room wasn't empty time. It was the most important work of their lives.

There's a hidden detail in how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly that rarely makes it into the storybook version. Inside the chrysalis, the caterpillar doesn't simply grow wings. It dissolves into something closer to liquid. Yet inside that mess, specialized cells are already quietly building the blueprint of the butterfly, forming something new out of what used to be a caterpillar.

That's what a hard middle can look like from the outside: dissolving, falling apart, going nowhere. But something is often being built underground that nobody claps for. Roots. Character. A dependence on God that doesn't grow on a highlight reel, only in the dark, hidden stretch where old crutches stop working and something sturdier gets formed instead.

Feeling like everything familiar is dissolving isn't necessarily a sign of failure. It might be construction. God doesn't waste a middle.

Reflection: What might God be quietly building beneath the surface of my life right now, even though it feels like everything is falling apart?

Prayer: Father, when this season feels like dissolving instead of growing, remind me You are forming something in me that I cannot see yet. Give me patience with the process. Amen.
