Message Minute (The Middle Is Not an Accident)

"Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about." (Acts 1:4, NIV)

Right before Jesus ascended, He gave His disciples a command that must have felt strange. Don't scatter. Don't go back to the boats or the old life. Stay in this in-between place, on purpose. That word "purpose" matters. The waiting wasn't a scheduling error. It wasn't a detour from the real plan. It was the plan.

Every meaningful transition has a middle, a stretch after the old thing ends and before the new thing arrives. Think of a family moving out of a house before the new one is ready, or someone starting a job that hasn't started to feel familiar yet. That stretch feels like nowhere. No neighborhood, no schools, nothing that says "stay." But God builds middles into His people on purpose, because that's where reorientation actually happens.

Israel didn't wander the wilderness because they got lost. God led them there. He wasn't only trying to get His people into the Promised Land. He was trying to get Egypt out of them first. The daily manna, only enough for one day at a time, was teaching a muscle that would be needed for the rest of life: trust, refreshed every single morning.

So if today feels like standing in an in-between place, unsure whether this is the destination or just a layover, take heart. Nothing has gone off track. The middle isn't a mistake. It's the assignment.

Reflection: What middle am I standing in right now, and have I been treating it as a detour instead of a destination God placed me in on purpose?

Prayer: Lord, help me trust that this waiting season is not wasted time. Teach me to lean on You one day at a time, the way Israel learned to trust You for daily bread. Amen.
