Message Minute (Open Hands, Ready to Receive)

"Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them."  Joshua 1:2

A good gift held too tightly stops being a gift and starts being an anchor. That's true of the job, the relationship and the version of life that once felt so right. The season was real. The blessing was genuine. But the tighter the grip, the more that good thing quietly turns into something it was never meant to be.

Here's what's easy to miss in the middle of holding on: every time God asks for open hands, He isn't trying to take something away. He's making room to give something more. He is not a thief who leaves people standing empty. He's a Father whose hands are already full of the next good thing, and He simply cannot place it into fists still clenched around the last one.

Think back to the edge of the Jordan in the book of Joshua. God didn't lead an entire nation to the water's edge just to strand them on the bank. He asked for open hands and wet feet, then He moved. The same God who parted a flooding river at harvest time is not in the business of leading anyone to new ground only to leave them holding nothing.

This is the posture worth carrying forward: hands open, not clenched. Empty hands aren't a tragedy, they're how anyone gets ready to receive.

Reflection: Has a good thing from my past quietly become an idol I'm refusing to release? If I truly opened my hands this week, what am I trusting God to place in them instead?

Prayer: Lord, my hands are open. Take what needs to be released and fill the empty space with what You have for me next. I trust that You're not taking things away from me. You're making room to give. Amen.
