Message Minute (Naming What's in Your Hands)

"But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord."  Philippians 3:7-8

New seasons rarely show up empty-handed. They arrive while both hands are already full; full of a job that mattered, a role that meant everything, a place that felt like home. Here's the part nobody mentions ahead of time: no one can grab hold of what's next while still gripping what's already ending. Hands can only hold so much.

Paul knew this well. Before writing about letting go, he lists his résumé, the perfect pedigree, the flawless religious record, the kind of life everyone around him wanted. None of it was fake or wasted. It was real, hard-earned, and genuinely good. Yet Paul made a deliberate choice to move every one of those items from the "gain" column into the "loss" column, simply because knowing Christ outweighed all of it combined.

That's the starting point for anyone standing at the edge of new ground: naming exactly what's still being carried from the last season. Not a vague sense that something feels off, but a specific list. A role that used to define a week. A relationship that shaped everything. A stretch of years with kids who needed help with everything, now grown and gone. A title nobody calls out anymore.

Vague grief stays vague forever. A named loss, though, can finally be handed over to God, one item at a time. This week, take a few honest minutes to get specific about what's still being clutched from the last chapter. Naming it isn't betrayal. It's the first real step toward open hands.

Reflection: What is one specific thing from a past season that I'm still carrying into this one? Why has this particular thing been so hard to put into words?

Prayer: Lord, show me what my hands are still holding onto from a season that has already ended. Give me courage to name it honestly instead of letting it stay a vague ache. I trust that You see what I've lost, and I trust You with what comes next. Amen.
