Message Minute (Follow the Ark, Not the Map)

"When you see the ark of the covenant... you are to move out from your positions and follow it."  Joshua 3:3

Look closely at Joshua 3 and notice what God never hands His people: an itinerary. No five-year plan, no step-by-step route, no laminated card with directions. What He gives instead is His presence, going ahead of them in the form of the ark. Follow Me, He says. Not a plan, a Presence.

There's a detail easy to miss: the people were told to keep roughly half a mile between themselves and the ark. Not out of distance for its own sake, but so that no matter where anyone stood in that massive crowd, they could lift their eyes and still see where God was leading. Nobody was too far back to see Him going first.

It is worth noting: the name Joshua, in Hebrew, is Yehoshua, meaning "The Lord saves." Carried into the New Testament, that same name becomes Jesus. The man leading terrified people into unfamiliar water, carried the very name of the One who does the same thing today. A map can't love anyone. It doesn't know a name, doesn't go first, doesn't come back for stragglers. A Person does. The invitation isn't to demand the whole route before taking a step, it's to watch for where God is already moving, and follow that.

Reflection: Where have I been asking God for a full plan instead of watching for His presence right in front of me?

Prayer: Jesus, I've been asking for the whole map when You've been offering me Yourself all along. Help me lift my eyes and follow where I can see You moving, one step at a time, even without the whole picture. Amen.
