Message Minute (Choosing a Foot to Stand On)
"But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do." - James 1:6-8
A wave never actually goes anywhere. It rises, drops, gets pushed by whatever wind happens to be blowing that day, and ends up right back where it started. James picks that image on purpose.
Doubt here doesn't mean honest questions or wrestling. It means standing with one foot on solid ground and one foot in shifting circumstances, letting whichever one feels stronger that day make the decision. Good news brings confidence, bad news brings collapse, and nothing steady ever gets built that way.
The opposite of that instability isn't having every answer figured out. It's choosing, on purpose, which foot to plant weight on: not the news of the day, but the character of God.
Reflection: Which foot has more weight on it in my life today, my circumstances or God's character? What would leaning more into God’s character look like for me right now?
Prayer: Lord, steady my feet. Let my decisions today rest on who You are, not on what today's news happens to say. Amen.
