Message Minute (The Weight Nobody Escapes Gracefully)

"Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." - James 1:4

Muscle only grows one way. Weight goes on, the body stays under it until it fails, then rest comes, then the process starts again. Nobody has ever built strength by describing a barbell or admiring someone else's set. There's no shortcut around the load.

The word James chooses to use, "let" carries weight of its own. It implies a choice. A hard season can be cut short. There are buttons for nearly every kind of pain: a new job, a new city, a new relationship, a bottle, a habit that numbs. Each one promises relief from staying under the load a moment longer.

None of that is judgment for anyone exhausted right now. Tiredness in a long season is earned honestly. But something forms during the staying that cannot form during the escaping. Growth needs the weight to remain a little longer than feels bearable.

Reflection: Is there an "eject button" I've been eyeing lately? What might I lose by pressing it too soon?

Prayer: Lord, staying under this weight is harder than any workout. Give me the strength to remain instead of escape and help me trust that the work being done in me is worth finishing. Amen.
