Message Minute (When God Says No)
"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." — 2 Corinthians 12:9
Three times Paul begged God to remove the thorn. Not a passing mention but a desperate, all-in appeal. And God said no. This is the same Paul who wrote most of the New Testament. If more faith guaranteed a yes, Paul would have gotten one. He didn't. That should bring relief to anyone who has been told a lack of breakthrough means a lack of belief. That's not how grace works.
God didn't take the thorn away, but He didn't stay silent either. "My grace is sufficient" is present tense, sufficient right now, in the middle of the struggle. Grace isn't always a rescue out of hardship. Sometimes it's the strength to face one more day inside it.
Tim Keller, writing through his own cancer diagnosis, once said something that echoes exactly here: he wouldn't have chosen the suffering, but he wouldn't wish away the person it made him become. That's the tension of a "no;" painful and purposeful at the same time.
Reflection: Have I been waiting for God to say yes, when maybe He's already answered with something better — His presence in the no?
Prayer: God, when You don't take this away, help me still trust You. Let me feel Your grace as enough, even when the answer isn't what I hoped for. Amen.
