Message Minute (When It Doesn't Go Away)

"Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me." — 2 Corinthians 12:8

Paul's thorn wasn't a minor annoyance. The language he used described something painful, humiliating, debilitating, and permanent. That last word is the hardest to swallow. A season is tolerable. A valley has an end in sight. But permanent? That's different.

Maybe there's a prayer that's been prayed for ten, twenty, thirty years with no answer in sight. A diagnosis that hasn't reversed. A relationship that hasn't been restored. A child who hasn't come home. Paul understood that ache. And here's the astonishing part: even in something permanent, purpose can still exist.

The alternative is spending an entire life fighting something God has allowed and calling it faith. But there's another way. A way that says, "This was given to me. Someone who loves me decided this would be part of the story." That shift doesn't erase the pain, but it changes how it's carried.

Reflection: Is there something I've been fighting for years that I've never allowed myself to receive instead?

Prayer: Father, I don't want to spend my life resisting what You've allowed. Help me trust that You see purpose where I only see pain. Give me the courage to receive what I've been trying to return. Amen.
