Message Minute (Slowing Down)

"Be still and know that I am God." - Psalm 46:10

Being chronically late isn't just a time management problem—it's a spiritual problem. When you're constantly rushing, always behind, perpetually stressed about time, you're communicating something about what you believe regarding God's control over your life.

Jesus was never late because Jesus was never in a hurry. He moved through His days with intention and peace, trusting that His Father would provide everything necessary to accomplish His will.

But we live like we're holding the universe together! We believe the toxic lie that everything depends on our efficiency, that our busyness proves our importance, and our hurry demonstrates our value.

Here's the truth: hurry makes us incapable of love. You can't love well when you're always thinking about the next thing. You can't be present to people when you're mentally already at your next appointment. You can't hear God's voice when you're constantly worried about falling behind.

Practical ways to eliminate hurry:
  • Build buffer time into your schedule (if something takes 30 minutes, block out 45)
  • Do one thing at a time—multitasking is a myth that creates stress
  • Practice being early and use that time to pray and center yourself
  • Embrace interruptions as potential divine appointments
  • Regularly evaluate your commitments and eliminate what you can

The goal isn't perfect time management—it's living at a pace where you can actually experience God's presence and peace throughout your day.

You've got plenty of things to do, but you don't have to be in a hurry about them.

Reflection Question: How has hurry affected your ability to be present with God and others?

Prayer: God, help me trust You with my time. Slow me down so I can walk at Your pace and be fully present to Your voice and the people You've placed in my life. Amen.
