Message Minute (Treasure in Heaven)

Luke 12:33-34 - "Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Jesus gives practical advice that might sound extreme at first: sell what you have and give to those in need. He's not necessarily commanding everyone to get rid of everything they own. Instead, he's illustrating a principle about where to invest for lasting value.

Earthly possessions are temporary. They break, get stolen, or become outdated. But when someone uses their resources to help others, they're investing in something eternal - the wellbeing of people who matter to God forever.

The last sentence reveals something important about human nature: our hearts follow our investments. If someone spends most of their time and money on themselves, their heart becomes self-centered. But if they regularly invest in others and in God's work, their heart naturally grows in compassion and love.

This creates a beautiful cycle: generosity makes the heart more generous, which leads to more generosity. People discover that giving brings more joy than hoarding ever could.

Reflection: What would it look like to store up "treasure in heaven" in your daily life?

Prayer: God, help me invest in what lasts forever. Give me wisdom to know when and how to be generous, and change my heart to find joy in giving. Amen.
