Message Minute (Refreshing Your Mind)

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." - Romans 12:2

Our minds are like sponges, soaking up whatever we expose them to. And if we're honest, a lot of what we've been absorbing lately isn't exactly life-giving, is it? Constant news cycles, social media comparison traps, the mental clutter of endless information and opinions.

Summer offers us a chance to be more intentional about what we feed our minds. Paul talks about mind renewal, and it's not a one-time event—it's an ongoing process of choosing what gets access to our thoughts.

What if this summer you tried a news fast for a week? What if you replaced some of your scrolling time with reading something that actually nourishes your soul? What if you spent time in nature without your phone, letting your mind wander and wonder instead of constantly consuming?

The pattern of this world tells us we need to stay informed about everything, react to every controversy, have opinions about every issue. But that's exhausting, isn't it? And it's not what God calls us to. He calls us to think about whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable.

Summer reading doesn't have to be heavy theology (though it could be!). It could be a biography of someone whose faith inspires you, poetry that helps you see beauty differently, or even fiction that explores deep questions about life and meaning. The goal is feeding your mind things that draw you closer to God and help you see the world through His eyes.

Your mind is a gift from God. Treat it like one.

Reflection Question: What's been filling your mind lately, and what would you like to replace it with to experience true mental refreshment?

Prayer: Lord, help me be intentional about renewing my mind. Show me what to say yes to and what to let go of. Fill my thoughts with Your truth, beauty, and goodness. Transform how I think. Amen.
