Message Minute (Recharging Your Body Temple)

"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own." - 1 Corinthians 6:19

Summer practically begs us to move our bodies! Between the longer daylight hours, warm weather perfect for walks and swimming pools calling our names. It's like creation itself is inviting us to step outside and remember that we're physical beings, not just floating heads attached to smartphones.

Paul reminds us that our bodies aren't just containers we drag around—they're temples. The Holy Spirit lives here. That changes everything about how we treat ourselves, doesn't it? You wouldn't trash a church building, so why do we sometimes neglect or abuse the temple God gave us?

This doesn't mean you need to become a fitness fanatic or survive on kale smoothies. It means honoring the body God gave you by treating it with care. Maybe that's finally taking those evening walks you keep promising yourself. Maybe it's choosing water over that third cup of coffee. Maybe it's getting enough sleep instead of scrolling until midnight.

Summer makes it easier to eat fresh foods, to be outside, to play instead of just working out. There's something healing about feeling sunshine on your face and grass under your feet. Your body was designed to move, to breathe fresh air, to interact with creation.

And here's the beautiful thing—when you take care of your body, you often find that your mind feels clearer and your spirit feels more connected to God. It's all connected. You're not just improving your physical health; you're creating space for God to work in and through you.

Reflection Question: How can you honor your body as God's temple this summer, and what's one small change you could make starting today?

Prayer: God, thank You for this body You've given me. Help me treat it as the temple it is. Give me wisdom to care for my physical health in ways that honor You and create space for Your Spirit to work. Amen.
