Message Minute (Resetting Our Priorities)

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." - Matthew 6:33

Summer has a way of shuffling our schedules - the kids are home, work might slow down a bit, and suddenly we have pockets of time we didn't have during the school year rush. It's the perfect opportunity for a priority reset.

I love how Jesus cuts through all our complicated planning with this simple instruction: seek God first, and everything else will fall into place. Not seek God when you have time, or after you've handled all your responsibilities, but first. Before the day gets crazy, before the to-do list starts screaming for attention.

Think about your typical summer day. What gets your first and best energy? If you're like most of us, it's probably checking emails, scrolling social media, or diving straight into the day's tasks. But what if we flipped that script?

What if the first thing we did was step outside with our coffee and notice how God painted the morning sky? What if we started with gratitude instead of anxiety? What if we asked God what He wanted to do through us today instead of assuming we knew best?

Resetting our priorities doesn't mean becoming super spiritual and ignoring practical responsibilities. It means recognizing that when we put God first, everything else gets infused with His presence and purpose. That grocery store run becomes a chance to practice patience. That afternoon with the kids becomes an opportunity to see wonder through their eyes.

Summer's slower pace gives us space to remember what really matters. Use it wisely.

Reflection Question: If you put God first in your daily rhythm this summer, what would change about how you spend your time and energy?

Prayer: Father, help me reset my priorities around You. When my days feel scattered, remind me to seek You first. Show me how to live with Kingdom focus, even in ordinary moments. Amen.
