Message Minute (Rich in Good Works)

1 Timothy 6:17-18 - "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, to be generous and willing to share."

The apostle Paul gives specific guidance to people who have financial resources. Notice he doesn't tell them to feel guilty about their wealth or give it all away immediately. Instead, he addresses the attitudes and actions that should accompany material blessings.

First, wealth shouldn't make someone arrogant or give them a false sense of security. Money can disappear quickly, but God's provision is reliable. Second, wealthy people should see their resources as tools for good rather than just personal comfort.

Paul encourages being "rich in good deeds" - using money, time, and influence to make a positive difference. This might mean supporting people in need, funding community projects, or creating opportunities for others to succeed.

2 Corinthians 9:11 adds another perspective: "You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion." God's blessings aren't just for personal enjoyment but enable greater generosity. When someone prospers, it's often so they can be a blessing to others.

Reflection: How can you be "rich in good deeds" regardless of your income level?

Prayer: Lord, whether I have little or much, help me use what you've given me to bless others. Make me generous in spirit and deed. Amen.
